The life of my Umbrella Mushroom. Discosoma Neglecta
I was taking some photos of my aquarium and was shocked to see what happens next. This mushroom has been in my tank for a few months now, and has grown quickly. It was 2" when I got him here, and now its 4-5" when fully extended.
I have enjoyed the many phases this shroom goes through. It loves to eat frozen Mysis shrimp. He has never bothered anything else, and up until now, I beleived he was pretty peaceful.

These are the pics I was taking of the tank and occupants. The big mushroom is on the left above the thermometer.
see under the mushroom the little red flick. Its a peppermint shrimp getting a little close. I had just fed the corals and fish mysis shrimp.

And his little brother shrimp is right there wondering what just happened.
here is a video of the mushroom with the shrimp trying to escape. As you can see he is putting up quite a fight. I only wish I would have caught it in the begining to see him enter the mushroom. After 10 minutes or so, the shrimp quit fighting. within an hour or so, the mushroom began to open up again.
It took a little while for th mushroom to open up. Here he is starting to open after trying to digest the shrimp. Look how close the other shrimp gets.

Not feeling so well this morning. and the little shrimp is still waiting to see wha happened.

After pumping his stomach, he felt a little weak for a bit but now is fully recovered and happy happy happy agian. the little shrimp is still sitting there waiting for big brother.

I caught this little critter in the act. He was trying to be sneaky, but I caught him taking bites.

Looks like someone's been nibbling on him too. Im sure he's gonna grow up and take care of himself as well as her big brother.
didnt realize red mythrax crabs ate stuff. maybe this is the zoa problems im having?
